Get your skin Summer Ready
Summer in Ireland can show up suddenly, catch you unprepared and leave as quickly as it arrives. With this in mind, you need to make sure your skin is summer ready, starting now and continuing the regime through the summer months so that you are ready for that sun when it does makes an appearance.
Exfoliate Your Skin
You need to exfoliate more during the summer months due to a build up of oil and sunscreen. This is even more important if you plan to apply fake tan to take the pale look of the skin. You can use a body mitt or a body scrub, a tried and tested one for me is the Cocoa Brown Tough Stuff (€4.99 McCabe’s). The same goes for your face but not daily, max 2 times a week for the summer period; No.7 Micro-dermabrasion (€11 boots) is great for those with sensitive skin/blemish prone skin.
Hydrate Your Skin
Drinking 2 litres of water on average a day will combat dry skin, flush out toxins and bacteria, giving your skin a healthier and more youthful look. Externally you also need to hydrate, to replenish any moisture lost as a result of high temperatures, humidity, air conditioning and UV radiation. Hyaluronic acid is the bodies own hydrating molecule, able to absorb up to 1,000 times its own weight in water and responsible for keeping our skin plump, smooth and supple. Using a moisturizer/Serum that contains Hyaluronic acid will help to add and absorb moisture to your skins outer layer right down to the dermis layer, temporarily plumbing out the wrinkles and fine lines. La Roche-Posay’s Hydraphase intense riche, €22 is a good option as with all their products it is rigorously tested and paraben free.
Switch Your Skincare Products
Due to the increase in oil production as a result of heat and humidity, you should move away from creamy cleansers to a foam wash used alternatively with a glycolic cleanser such as Nip n Fab (€9.95) which I swear by for removing grime from pores and reducing the appearance of them. Moving from a heavier foundation to a CC cream is also a must during the summer months for day to day wear. Giorgio Armani Luminessence CC Color Control has a high SPF cover of 35 and is perfect for the natural dewy look (€45 Brown Thomas).
Wear Sunscreen every day
This is so important during the summer months. If your makeup has a SPF you should still put sunscreen under your moisturizer before makeup application. Bearing in mind that you need to reapply every 2 hours as it gets broken down by light, it is an investment to buy a translucent powder that has a SPF coverage. Vichy Derma Blend setting powder has a high SPF of 30 and can be got in pharmacies nationwide. (€19.99).
Now your skin is ready for the long Summer days.
