I bought the L’Oréal Paris Infallible Total Cover foundation as part of the 2 for €15 offer in Boots as I love the Infallible Matte foundation. I was hoping that the Total Cover foundation would be similar except with more coverage…obviously lol. Unfortunately they are nothing alike and to be honest; I rather dislike the Infallible Total Cover foundation!
Infallible Matte Foundation
If you use the Infallible Matte foundation; you will already be aware that it has a matte finish yet the consistency of the foundation is fluid . If you have dry or dehydrated skin; the Infallible Matte foundation is still an option to use as long as you moisturise effectively before application. It gives good coverage in my opinion; I have a lot of scarring and redness and it covers it perfectly. It sits nicely on the skin (more so if you use a beauty blender) and it last’s a good 6 hours before it begins to break down.
It’s a great option for everyday foundation due to the small price tag and the offers that are always running in Boots. I find that it does not clog my pores, leaves a matte finish, yet does not look cakey.
Infallible Total Cover Foundation
When I tried the Infallible Total Cover foundation; I was surprised at how thick the consistency was. If you follow me on snapchat (@putting_it) you would have seen me using it last week for the first time. You would have also heard me say that I found it quite hard to blend with a Kabuki Brush. I went over the foundation with my beauty blender to try to even it out. The struggle was real! I felt that it set into every line, pore and more importantly, I did not find the coverage that amazing.
I picked up the Infallible Total Cover foundation for it to do what it says on the tin. More than anything else, this is what disappointed me. The coverage is no better than the Infallible Matte foundation as you can see below. That beauty spot always comes in handy for showcasing the coverage element! That said I was not willing to give up. I mean, I sacrificed getting my Infallible Matte foundation for this…and money is tight at the moment.
So the next day I tried the Infallible Total Cover foundation again. I moisturised and also used a small bit of facial oil as my skin is very dehydrated at the moment. I hoped that this may help the fluidity of application as well as giving my skin an extra barrier (I also used a primer on each occasion). My beauty blender was the tool of choice this time and I found it applied a bit better.
I used it for an additional two days with a mixture of primers and hydrating moisturiser. So in total I applied it 4 different times, with different tools and different skin priming products.
I am just sad to say that the Infallible Total Cover foundation is just a non runner for me! It felt heavy and uncomfortable, it aged me about 10 years (and no one wants that) and it did not give any additional coverage. From now on I am sticking to the Infallible Matte foundation and as for the Infallible Total Cover foundation….straight in the bin it goes!
If you have oily skin; the Infallible Total Cover foundation could possibly work for you. I will say if you are getting it for the additional coverage, make sure you test it out before you purchase.
I always think it is important to note when doing reviews, that all our expectations, skin type and general requirements differ. This is just my opinion based on what the product was offering and my expectation of the end result. If you loved it or hated it, let me know!
Until next time
