I recently attended a Murder Mystery Dinner in the Oakwood Arms Hotel Shannon. The food and drink were supplied by the hotel and the event itself was run by HIYA Entertainment. It was by far the best night out I have had in a long time. I had no idea it was on, but my friend Lynda suggested that we should go a couple of days before it was on and as I was dying for a night out, I said yes! I was not sure what actually would happen at a Murder Mystery Dinner but I was well on board to find out!
The answer became apparent during the drinks reception, when all the Characters of Murder Mystery interacted with the guest. Hilarious was not the word! We were also supplied with background information on each character and the general gist of the story just before we headed in for dinner.
The menu had more than enough choice for each course. I went with the 12 Hour Slow Roast Pork Belly,Tournfulla Black Pudding with Apple Cider Compote for Starters, Baked Salmon, Saute Tiger Prawns, Drizzled with Lemon Tarragon for Mains and of course the Warm Dark Chocolate Brownie & Chocolate Sauce for Dessert. The Oakwood has recently changed ownership and I have to say, the food is of a much higher standard now.
So while we ate our meal, we were entertained throughout by snippets of the story behind the murder. It was like watching a play with short scenes, a bit of music and some very funny interactions. It fit perfectly to a night out….you don’t want to spend too much time trying to figure out what is going on, you want it to be light, yet fun with time to engage with your friends.
At some point during the night we were told that the Murder took place and that we would have to examine the crime scene for clues! So after Dessert, each table was escorted down to the crime scene and I can tell you I have not laughed that hard in a long-time. The Actors were just amazing and they done such a fabulous job of keeping us all entertained.
I won’t give too much away as I really hope that they will run the Murder Mystery Dinner again and if they do, you have to attend…..you will not regret it! I know I am going to keep an eye out on both their Facebook pages for their next Collaboration.
The night only cost €35 which I would happily spend again! That included drinks on arrival, 3 course dinner, murder mystery and disco after, so it is save to say you’re getting your money’s worth.
Did anyone else attend the night? Would love to know your thoughts on it!
