Shiseido Synchro Skin Foundation – Review and Application

Shiseido Synchro Skin Foundation

I saw the Shiseido Synchro Skin Foundation in action courtesy of their brand ambassador Danielle Mahon at a PR Event I attended for Shiseido a couple of months ago. I was obsessed about the claims of it having a matte finish yet giving a dewier look than most matte finishes. I can tell you right now that this foundation is just amazing.  If you’re a “one-word review kind of person” that is it! For those of you who like a bit more information, please do keep reading 😉

Shiseido Synchro Skin Foundation

I have waited to do a full review on the Shiseido Synchro Skin foundation (PR Sample), primarily because I think you must use a foundation for a long time before you can say…yes this is an exact match for my skin type. If you have visited before; you will know that I have incredibly oily, acne scared skin. I also have large pores, that can be a huge a problem when applying foundation.

Update – My skin type has changed to dehydrated and I still find this my favourite foundation of 2016.

So before I get into a full review , you will find below what Shiseido says about the foundation (taken directly from their website):

A smart, oil-free, long-lasting foundation that beautifully enhances your complexion. Maintains skin’s clarity while preventing shine, creasing and fading all day long. Flawlessly undetectable like it belongs to your skin, this innovative formula with medium, buildable coverage and a modern matte, natural finish feels uniquely airy and silky on skin.

  • Formulated with Advanced Sensing Technology that creates a dynamic synchronization with your skin’s condition for a beautiful look.
  • Broad Spectrum SPF 20.
  • Mother of Thyme Extract helps prevent skin damage caused by oxidation.*
  • John’s Wort Extract helps prevent skin roughness.*
  • To use: Shake before use. Apply after skincare, smoothing on evenly from the center of the face outward and build to your desired coverage with additional layers.

There are 12 colours in the range varying from cool too neutral too warm toned. I received the neutral in 4 which is just a small bit dark for me when not wearing fake tan. If I am not using tan, I general just use a bronzer on my neck area to make it more natural fit.

I have swatched it below so that you can see. Only 1 pump was used however you may want more if you like to really build coverage.

Below is a picture of me before application of the Shiseido Synchro Skin foundation and after for you to view. No primer was used and its applied with a cheap old stippling brush. I would like to add using the right tools does make a difference in regards to how foundation looks on the skin. In this case it still applied beautifully. Please note it is not the most flattering picture of me but since I dyed my hair I couldn’t really do a retake, it would look a bit dodge lol.

Overall Impression of the Shiseido Synchro Skin Foundation

When you first put it on the skin it is like silk; basically it is the nicest feeling in the world! It does not feel like you are applying foundation but more of a face cream. You can build it if you wish as it sits nicely and does not look too harsh or cakey on the skin. I generally work my foundation in fast but I did not feel like it dried too quickly on my skin.

As the shade I have is a tad darker than my own skin tone; it is visible that I am wearing makeup but if it was an actual match; I think this would look very natural. It covered my scars and blemishes well, I did not find that it sat into my pores. The pore thing is a real bug bearer for me. I hate the way some foundations just cling to them and you can’t help but notice them more than you would with no makeup on.

I did not use a finishing powder the first few uses as it “synchronizes to your skin” and it lasted a fair few hours which is great for me. I did start to use a powder and setting spray as normal though as I still needed it for my makeup to last the distance.

To sum up the Shiseido Synchro Skin Foundation leaves a beautiful finish, lasts the distance (and more with a little help) does not block/clog my pores as much as other foundations. My favourite part is how nice it applies to the skin and how light it feels once on!

Shiseido Synchro Skin Foundation retails at €45 and can be purchased at Shaws. Since this review, I have gone into Shaws Limerick and with the help of Diane; I picked up a sample of the foundation in a lighter shade and its perfect. The help I received was second to none and I am now going to purchase another bottle!

If you have used it I would love to hear your thoughts.
